Hello, I'm MaurÃcio and this is the page of our Jataà Space Physics Laboratory (FEJ). The purpose of this page is to tell you a little about our history, our mission and other information that I hope will be interesting. An interesting question is why place this equipment here in the Brazilian Midwest (some of the equipment is unique to the Midwest)? There are two important factors, the first of which refers to the fact that the Earth's magnetic field over South America is weaker than in other regions of the world. This anomaly is called the South American Magnetic Anomaly. The figure on the side shows this region in blue. To read more about this fault in the geomagnetic field, click the button below.

The history of FEJ began in mid-2012 when Dr. Paulo R. Fagundes, a researcher at the University of Vale do ParaÃba (UNIVAP) in São José dos Campos, signed a cooperation agreement with me whereby he would temporarily provide equipment for the acquisition of geophysical data. Likewise, INPE, through Dr. Alexandre Pimenta, would provide the container to support the measurements. The figure below shows the container being installed in 2012.

The second important factor is that, because this anomaly covers the entire national territory, there was no geophysical equipment to study the influence of this anomaly in the Brazilian Midwest, that is, no university in this region of the country had carried out a systematic study with different equipment gathered in a single location. Thus, the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), Jataà region, is being the first university in the Midwest to allow the formation and consolidation of this structure. The figure on the side shows the city of Jataà triangulating with the Brazilian cities of São José dos Campos (SP), Palmas (TO) and Manaus (AM).
